The celebrations involved in the Dussehra festival of Jagdalpur are unique in its perception and significance. It is a fine blend of the Hindu and tribal beliefs. The festival cuts across caste and creed and is also celebrated by people belonging to other religions and beliefs. Dussehra in Bastar is celebrated in honor of Sri Danteshwari Mai as according to the tribal folks she is the one who protected the Kings of Bastar from attackers by giving them protection in the forests. During the celebrations Danteshwari Mai along with other tribal are also worshipped.
The presiding deity of the temple is places in a 'rath" (Called Phool Rath) which is then pulled by ropes by all the devotees. Lots of rituals and prayers are involved during the festival days with each and every ceremony being celebrated with religious fervor. The Dussehra festival is celebrated mostly in the month of October or November.
